Hampshire Hoggets 2017
2017 Fixtures — see link above
The Hoggets have a fabulous Summer ahead of them.
I am extremely grateful to Emma Talbot-Williams who has been putting the jigsaw of fixtures together and we will be publishing the final list soon. Please be by your phones ready for the call to arms!!
Thank you also to all the parents who have offered their support for the coming season – please do come along to the Hoggets (and Hogs) drinks at Warnford on Sunday April 9th and get the season off to a racing start! It starts at 11.30 and do bring your sons and daughters too.
This will be the first season for some time that there will be fixtures for the Under 18’s – many of who will be recovering after their A Levels! We are delighted that we have been contacted by some of the School Cricket masters asking that their players get some cricket in after the school term ends so that they get as much good cricket as possible this summer. We are on the map!!
There are a lot of changes to the Fixture List and the highlights are that we have two Australian touring sides coming to play us – Yarra Valley Grammar School, and Geelong College from Australia come to Warnford in July.
I am also delighted that the Junior Band of Brothers and Junior Martlets will be coming to Warnford, and that we will renew our rivalry in a 20:20 triangular day back at Hurst later in the season. We have also strengthened our links with the County and are entered in to a 20:20 tournament and have been drawn against Sparsholt in the first round. We await the exact date – but it might be in the Summer half term.
We also welcome the regional Under 15 Hampshire teams to Warnford in late July and early August – these are not Hogget fixtures but a great way of getting people up to the ground and playing some fabulous cricket there.
The season will have its traditional curtain raiser, the Frank Higgs Day, with an Under 13 and Under 16 game on Monday May 29th. Don’t miss it – last year we had nearly 200 people at the ground enjoying the cricket and the barbecue.
The end of the season will see the Hoggets take on the Hogs for the Mike Moldon Memorial Trophy. I am delighted that Sam Moldon, Mike’s grandson, will be skippering the Hogs.
On a personal note I am sad to report that that Nick Foot, one of the modern founding fathers of the Hoggets, and a great Hog largely responsible for our resurgence as a Club, passed away far too young. This season is for you, Nick.
